Calling the Crisis Hotline

The abuse is not your fault. You are not alone. For free and confidential help, call the Minnesota Day One Crisis Hotline at 1.866.223.1111.

Whether you’re experiencing domestic violence, sexual assault or sexual violence, human trafficking or simply questioning aspects of your relationship, advocates are available 24/7 to listen and give information and resources.

What to Expect if you Call the Minnesota Day One Crisis Hotline

  • Advocacy from a supportive person. An advocate in your area will listen, understand, and help you sort out your options. Advocates provide support and assistance, information, referrals, resources, and more.
  • Choices about involving law enforcement. Calling the crisis hotline is not the same as calling the police. No one will call the police without your permission uness they believe that you are in immediate physical danger and cannot make the call yourself.
  • A safe place/shelter. An advocate will try to locate an available safe place to stay if you choose, and may be able to help with transportation to get there if you need it.
  • Resources. Many programs offer or have connections to:
    • Support groups. Available for children, youth, and/or adults.
    • Transitional housing. Some programs have longer term housing for survivors of abuse.
    • Legal advocacy. Most programs offer information about an Order for Protection and other civil matters. Most do not provide legal counsel, but may be able to refer you to free or low cost lawyers.

Whether you want to leave, or just want someone to talk to, we are here 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
